Very interesting and whimsical, carved match safe from a home in Fisherville, Haldimand County, Ontario. Circa 1870. Appears to be pine. Fantastic form and great patina. There is evidence that the both right and left birds have been re-glued at some point, and the wing of the right bird is replaced. Hard call as it looks correct from the front but you can see from the back. There is slight unrepaired damage to the mustache of the left face. Wear is consistent with age. Approx. 12" long, 5 1/2" wide, 3" deep.
