KathyUp the Grand Antiques is located in Grand River Valley, Ontario
Miniature pottery picture frame attributed to potter George Beech of Brantford on the basis of style. It may have been a salesman's sample because it does not look like it was ever used. The exterior measurements of the frame are approximately 5" X 5 1/2" with a rabbet of approximately 3 3/4" X 4 3/4". The visible aperture measures approximately 2 1/4" X 2 7/8". Magnificent swirled dark chocolate and butterscotch glaze. Outstanding condition with no chips or cracks. For a signed example of Beech's pottery picture frames see plate 125 in Elizabeth Collard's seminal study of NINETEENTH CENTURY POTTERY AND PORCELAIN IN CANADA (2nd. ed.). A signed Beech pottery frame sold at a Waddington Auction in 2000 for $6,670. Un unsigned pottery frame sold at the same auction for $5,750.
