Early 19th century Waterloo County sampler - all white, silhouetted against blue both. Outer edges were hand-stitched to the blue background at a later date. This type of needlework typically was done on the bottom of show towels in the early 19th century. But this piece never appears to have been part of a larger work. Three sides are framed by a sawtooth border. There is no evidence of a fringe on the bottom. Measures approximately 10" X 13 3/4".
