An interesting forged iron heart-shaped trivet with a bifurcated tail. The legs are peened into the frame & terminate in round “penny” feet. Excellent original condition with no damage. Clear evidence of file marks on frame and underside of feet. Measures approx. 6 ¼ inches long x 5 inches wide x 1 ¾ inches high. Typical of the South-Western Ontario counties where Alsation and Swiss-German settlers favoured this heavy form of trivet and made frequent use of the heart motif in their furniture & artefacts. Circa 1860.
