A French, early 20th century canvas-bound, steamer trunk banded with bentwood outer hardwood ribs and brass corners in the style of Louis Vuitton. Incredibly all the brass is intact as well as the 2 leather carrying handles which is rare. The ends have stitched leather surrounds and are stenciled G. G. F. probably to indicate the owner and applied by the vendor when sold.
The brass locking mechanism is intact but I have no key. The 2 front clamps and 2 rear hinges are all intact and work smoothly to close the top.
The inside is white linen with buckles and straps and a smaller separate compartment. There was once a removable shelf but that is no longer present. There are a couple of stains in the upper right corner of the lid (see photo) but otherwise the interior is clean.
A trunk this size would make a great coffee table or for storage of blankets, etc. at the end of a bed.
Approx. size in inches: 36" W. x 22" D. x 23" H. Circa 1910.
