J & E. Stevens Painted Cast Iron Speaking Dog Mechanical Bank 1885 Patent
This mechanical bank was made by J & E Stevens Co. Cromwell Ct USA. The bank is in its original condition with no restoration. To operate the bank, place a coin on the plate held by the girl, depress the lever on the base near the dog, which causes the girl's right arm to move back quickly, depositing the coin through a trap door in the bench beside her. At the same time, the dog opens its mouth as if speaking and also wags its tail. It has a patent date on the base of 'July 1895". It has a round coin trap and the little girl is wearing a red dress.
Approximate Dimensions: It is 7 1/2" tall x 7" wide and is marked with a patent date of July 14, 1885 on the bottom.

Condition: Excellent working condition. No apparent damages or repairs. There is some minor paint loss, (see photos). There could be minor repaint on right cheek and under chin.I do not have a key to open it up but the trap can be opened to retrieve the money..
