Gilbert Desrochiers (1926- 1990) lived as an "outsider" on the family compound were he devoted his waking hours to creating sculpture. He is represented in many important Canadian folk art collections due to the clarity and simplicity of his form. He was "discovered" by Ontario artist John Hartman at his home in Tiny Township, Ontario in the 80's, and later in 1991 he was featured in a one-man show at McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario . There is an excellent 71 page catalog entitled "The Peaceable Kingdom of Gilbert Desrochiers". ] I have a few remaining copies available for $18 ea. This piece is from the Patricia and Ralph Price Collection. Signed on the bottom. 10" long, 6" tall, 4" wide. Excellent condition.
