Robert McCairns. 1905-1989
Robert McCairns. Born in Scotland, he immigrated to Canada in 1923. Mr. McCairns was the gamekeeper at Turkey Point Hunting Reserve, where he began to carve the local birds he observed in his spare time. Occasionally he also carved domestic animals such as cats and pigs. He usually signed his work on the base.
This is an excellent example of Mr. McCairn's work and a great piece of Norfolk County folk art. It shows a male and female hummingbird resting on twigs. 11" wide, 4" deep, 12" tall. signed on the bottom. Excellent condition.
