A fine & very early porcelain dish in bright orange-reds, greens & gilt in a “Japan” type pattern. Bears the Derby mark with # “17” to one side. The mark is more neatly drawn than in the post-1800 period yet not as precise as in their 1700-1782 period. Hand-painted on transfer.
Dates from 1782 to 1805. Some gilt loss to the rim and minor wear to the pattern but overall in great shape for a plate of this age. No crazing, cracks or chips. Foot edge has areas where glaze didn’t take (scum marks) which are typical of the 1780-1800 period. Approx. 8 ½” in diameter. Actual colours are deeper and richer then the photo shows.
