A delightful watercolour of what I believe to be a Minister visiting an elderly lady holding a cane at her home having recently arrived in his horse and buggy. The painting is by Fenwick, Ontario artist John Blanchard (1904-1993). It is framed under glass with a painted wooden mat and an outer frame of oak. (In most cases he made his own frames & this is one example of that).
His work was exhibited in New York, Montreal, Toronto and at juried exhibitions at Rodman Hall in St. Catherines. He taught art from his century farmhouse in Fenwick, sketched political subjects, scenes from WW II, the building of the Welland Canal and still lifes but concentrated the bulk of his work on rural scenes and farming life in Pelham County.
Sight size is 11 ¼” x 8 1/8”. Frame is 19 ¼” x 16 5/8”. Signed lower right.
