AN ENGLISH WATERCOLOUR TITLED & SIGNED BY THE ARTIST LOWER RIGHT “ON RYDAL WATER” & “E. A. KRAUSE” (EMIL ALEX KRAUSE, RCA {ROYAL CAMBRIAN SOCIETY} 1867-1945).

FRAMED UNDER GLASS IN A DARKLY GILDED & EMBOSSED WOODEN FRAME WITH AN OFF-WHITE MATTE OVER A GILT PAINTED INNER BORDER. APPROX. SIGHT SIZE IN INCHES : 13 ¾” H. x 9 ½” W. FRAMED: 23 ¾” X 19 ¾”. CIRCA 1895. FRAME IS LATER.

THE ARTIST WAS BORN IN BERLIN BUT EMIGRATED TO ENGLAND WITH HIS FAMILY IN 1881. EARLY IN HIS CAREER HE FOCUSED ON THE WELSH COUNTRYSIDE & THE LAKES DISTRICT BUT WHEN OLDER CONCENTRATED ON THE SCOTTISH COASTAL REGIONS. HIS WORK IS HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER & IS FOUND IN MANY MAJOR COLLECTIONS.

RYDAL WATER IS ONE OF THE SMALLEST LAKES IN THE ENGLISH LAKE DISTRICT AT ¾ MILES LONG & ¼ MILES WIDE & 55 FEET DEEP. THE LAKE WAS AN INSPIRATION FOR WRITERS SIR WALTER SCOTT, WILLIAM WORDSWORTH & S. T. COLERIDGE.
