Hollow Bodied Black Duck Drake By Warren Meiler (1922 - 2012)

hintonHinton Antiques is located in Washago, Ontario

Warren Meiler was greatly influenced by Ken Anger (1905 - 1961) They were hunting buddies and friends. By the late 1960's Warren Meiler began carving his birds in the Anger fashion. Collectors seek age, form, condition and provenance. We feel that when a hunter carves gunning birds and never uses them this is as good as it gets. The Black Duck Drake we present to you is not a mantel bird. It is a hollow bodied gunning bird that has never been used and is 45+ years old. size - 16 1/2" x 6 3/4" x 5" ( Note M brand on bottom)
Any serious duck hunter we have ever met will confess that the most prized decoys in their rig are the black duck decoys. These birds are elusive and hard to decoy and require decoys of high quality. The Meiler blacks are exquisite.
The only difference between a black duck hen and drake is in the bill. The hen has a greenish olive bill with blotches and the drake has a yellow to greenish bill with no blotches.
