This is a RARE original 1970 poster for Canada’s most iconic rock festival – the Transcontinental Pop Festival, also known as Festival Express. This poster is nearly impossible to find and is eagerly sought after by collectors of vintage rock memorabilia. The poster has been in the possession of the vendor since attending the festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1970.
The festival, initially billed as the Transcontinental Pop Festival, was Canada’s answer to Woodstock. Festival Express was a major traveling rock festival that was staged during the summer of 1970 in three Canadian venues: Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary. It featured some of the biggest names in rock music, including Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, The Band, Mountain, Buddy Guy, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Traffic, Ten Years After, Sha Na Na, Eric Andersen, and Canadian groups Mashmakhan, Charlebois, Ian & Sylvia and Great Speckled Bird. Randy Bachman of the Guess Who also made a guest appearance at the Winnipeg concert. This was to be one of Janis Joplin’s last live performances, as she died 3 months later.
This concert was the subject of a documentary - "Festival Express" - which had its world premiere at the 2003 Toronto International Film Festival.
This is a chance to own a RARE original copy of the Winnipeg concert poster and a piece of Canadian rock history. (Note: glare is from the reflection of the glass)
