MORAVIAN KEYED BOX LOCK W/ LATCH
Moravian box lock with attached latch & strap hinge. Wide, rounded backplate w/flowering tulip finial. Latch has a curled point at one end & a flattened tulip shape at the other. Along the length of the latch are 2 tulip buds; one atop the other which are not visible on the photos. No key. Hand-wrought forged iron with a tinned surface. Approx. 10 ½ L.; 7 ¼ W. This item came from a Toronto lock collector. This heavily rounded shape is associated with the Moravian communities in Bethlehem, Penn. & Winston-Salem, N.C. Circa 1800.
