Dome topped box in the shape of a trunk with numerous inlaid pieces on all sides in alternating light & dark woods. Geometric design including lozenge at lower front. A series of squares each consisting of 4 triangles creates imitative straps. 6-pointed compass star symbol incised on lid. Secured with small hand-headed nails. Although hollow I have never been able to open this box. It’s quite a little mystery trunk and was found in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. See “The Spirit of Nova Scotia” P. 150 for examples of inlaid work. Approx. 5 ¼” H.; 9 ¼” W.; & 5 ½” D. Circa 1860.
