ANTIQUE SHOO-FLY ROCKING HORSE
A late 19th century shoo-fly platform rocking horse featuring a fine pair of running horses in profile w/painted features, bridle, saddle, etc. Flanking their heads is a swinging toy box. The fixed seat is upholstered in its original green corduroy fabric. The seat cushion is padded while the back is straw-filled. Outstanding original colours. Some fabric loss to one corner of the upper seat. The base is detachable. Approx. size in inches: 21 high x 32 ½ long x 16 wide.
The 1895 Montgomery Ward catalogue and the 1897 Sears Roebuck catalogue offered these “swinging” rockers. Circa 1890’s.
